YAS Spotlight on Matthias Santucci
YAS 25TH ANNIVERSARY STUDENT SPOTLIGHT
Matthias Santucci is 15 years old and the youngest of four tight-knit siblings. He has been playing piano for six years. From the moment he put his hands on the piano, he was hooked, taking to it with passion and determination.
This is Matthias’s third year as a Sunriver Music Festival Young Artists Scholarship recipient. He is also a Bend Rotary Club Scholarship recipient. In addition to scholarships, he has been in multiple masterclasses with internationally acclaimed pianists such as Kenneth Broberg and Tanya Gabrielian and Matthias played Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23 with the Central Oregon Youth Orchestra in 2018. This last year, he was awarded an honorable mention for his performance in the Central Oregon Symphony Young Soloist Competition and was a finalist in the Oregon Mozart Players Young Artists Competition.
He is passionate about all things classical, but also plays jazz piano in the Summit High School Jazz Band and saxophone in the Concert Band. When he is not studying and playing music, Matthias can be found playing lacrosse for Summit High School or playing board games or hiking with his family in the Cascades near his home in Bend, Oregon.
